I need a glass of wine first. Better, but not enough left in the bottle to make up for the day I had. Oh well, a little is better than none.
So, Friday was another big day for us. Our morning was going great. B & I went to tumbling with no potty accidents and ran a few errands and managed to stay dry, both of us. Then at 1:30 the delivery arrives...the Big Boy bed! I go ahead and put him down for his nap in his crib since I don't have time to mess with all that yet. My mom arrives shortly after. He finally wakes up around 4:30 and we take the kids to see the movie Hop. It's really cute! After dinner we bathe the kids and get them in bed. It's Bennett's first night in the big boy bed. YEA! Oh lord help me, this is not going as planned. This is not like it was with Ella. "You stay in bed until mommy or daddy comes to get you in the morning." Yep, that worked with Ella from 2 years 2 months until probably 3 1/2. Not the case with this wild child. He was up and out of that room every few minutes. I'd lay with him, Chris would go in there, and back and forth until I finally fell asleep on his bed around 11:30. OMG! Saturday morning he's back up at like 6:15. How's this possible with an 11:30 bedtime? Then naptime? Nope. Of course he's not going to nap. He just gets up and down the whole time. In and out of his room. How many times can I open and close the door? Thank goodness my mom was here and offered to watch the kids, well, I asked her to Saturday night. Of course he went to sleep for her. He was exhausted. Sunday, again no nap. What is wrong with this kid? Bedtime, let's see, I had to lay on his bed until he fell asleep because he kept coming out of his room. He was up again until 9:00. Finally, it's Monday and my sweet kids go to school. Do you think Bennett took a nap? Oh yes, he sure did. Do you think he had a potty accident at school? Oh no, he sure didn't. I am mommy, hear me roar. Bedtime: not easy and I'm on his bed until 9:45. Seriously? So, here we are at the end of today. Today was one of those days that was so bad I don't even want to write about it. He woke up at 3:45 so I had to lay on his bed until he fell back asleep again. He was the first one up. I woke up with a migraine which made the day that much worse. B was a pistol today. He was doing everything possible to annoy his sister who was being so sweet and actually being quite an angel all day. By the time we left for ballet which was only 9:15 I was ready to scream. I knew it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I think I'll move to Australia. And that is just how the rest of the day went. At naptime I tried what his teachers suggested and put his nap mat on his bed and I laid on his bed for a little while. He did not ever fall asleep. But, after his bath he fell asleep immediately and I was out the door to read to Ella at 7:55. I am hopeful that this is just an adjustment and he'll get back to his normal routine which is napping and bedtime. I don't understand how a child can go from 2 1/2 - 3 hour naps to no nap over night?? He's cranky, mean, feisty, and he surely isn't listening to me. Breathe. Maybe I should look into meditation classes.
Then there's the potty training. He is doing really well for the most part except he typically won't poop in the potty. After almost three weeks of undies you'd think it'd start to click.
- I have never done so much laundry before. There's usually a load in the wash before 8:00 a.m. everyday.
- Public toilets are not high enough for little boys that are learning how to pee standing up. Just saying...
- Twice I have walked out of the bathroom for a split second and walked back in to find that B has just used a little toilet paper and flushed without tearing the toilet paper first. It starts unrolling fast.
- Tell mommy before you start to pee not after.
- It's ok to go to the bathroom with daddy.
- On Sunday he pooped in the potty TWO times. Yea!! But hasn't since.
- While he should have been asleep this afternoon he decided to poop. In his pull-up. He took off the pull-up and put it in the trash can in his bedroom. However, the adorable red boxer briefs that were on over the pull-up, well, he said he flushed them down the toilet. Twice he has flushed undies down the toilet. Really? I expect to have a plumber out soon and will be deducting the money from his college fund.
I really am proud of him for the progress he's made with the potty training. I know he'll get there.
I'll leave you with a picture taken tonight of him sound asleep in his big boy bed. I'll take pictures of his room soon when it's complete.
