Now, look at this picture and see if you notice anything different...
Do you need another hint? Here's a closer look...
Oh my gosh. He's in Big Boy undies. Lord help me. Now! It's been two weeks today that we've been working on this. Let me just say that boys are COMPLETELY different than girls. I put Ella in panties when she woke up from her nap and that was it. Never used a diaper again except for the occasional, I'm talking rare, pull-up and nap/bedtime. Whoa. Not the case here.
Some differences:
- he stands, duh
- he will run around naked and then pee. oh well, keep playing? what?
- he will just poop in his undies but in the bathroom. huh?
- he just doesn't care
- he hasn't once told me he needs to go potty but he does say "not yet" almost every time I ask him
Some of my experiences this week:
Monday:
- I take him to school in a diaper with undies over it because he hadn't pooped yet. I pick him up and he's in undies. He slept in just undies. What?!? They're brave. Comes home and poops in said undies.
Tuesday:
- I take him to potty and then while they're eating breakfast I run upstairs to send an email. While typing I hear a flush and think it's Ella, then hear, "Mommy, I potty." Run down to find him naked. Great. (sigh) Look in bathroom and ask, "Where are your underwear?" He points to toilet. "No, where are your underwear?" He points again to toilet and says, "You happy?"
- At ballet he disappears. I find him with wet clothes in the bathroom. So, he made it to the bathroom but he didn't tell me he had to go potty first. I change him. A few minutes pass and he poops in new undies. UGH. I take him back and put a diaper on him. A few minutes pass and he poops again. What? I use my last wipe and have no diaper. My friend gives me one.
- We go to the gym and home to shower. No accidents. Everything is good. Before we go pick up Ella we go to Chick-fil-a. After he eats and he ate a lot he goes to play. He won't come down. I realize the diaper is probably dirty. After at least five minutes of asking him to come down I climb up. It's dirty up there. Gross. I go to check his diaper and my thumb and index finger are covered in poop. I carefully come back down with him in tow. Remember I used my last wipe earlier and I didn't think to grab any at home. I quickly grab a sanitary wipe that CFA has at the play area door and clean out under my disgusting nails and walk back in grab my purse and head to the restroom. Well, I have no diaper and no wipes. He did have undies on over the diaper. Wet paper towels will clean but it's messy and he was screaming that it hurt.
- After nap we make a Target run (in undies) to buy a couple more packages of underwear. No accidents!
Wednesday:
- No accidents in the morning and I send him to school in undies. His teacher did tell me to get rid of diapers on Monday, after all. I arrive to pick up and she tells me to go to Ella's room first because he's on the potty. Come back and he had just pooped on the potty. YEA! Miracle just happened. We walk around the corner to the book fair. We're there for a few minutes and then walk to the car. I lift him up and feel his shorts. They're wet! In that short time he peed and didn't tell me.
- Get home change him and let him run around in undies. Maybe 15 minutes pass and he's sitting on the step to the doorway in timeout and he pees.
- Third pair of undies since we've been home and maybe 30 minutes pass and he poops in his undies. Really? I grab him and run to the bathroom and he finishes his business in the potty.
- I'm pretty sure he had one more accident in that fourth pair of underwear but I lost count. But, from about 4:30 to bath he had no accidents.
Thursday:
- When he goes potty I usually step out of the bathroom and then he'll start peeing. This morning I stepped out, walked to the kitchen and walked right back to find him still standing but with his hand on his bottom. Yes, he was pooping in his hand.
- With that said, we made it all the way until 7:45 p.m. until he had an accident. We had just gotten home from the kids' school exhibit thing and he sat down on the barstool and used it as the potty (pee).
He does say, "I did it!" every time he goes potty. It's pretty cute. I have a treasure box for him but he's over it now. Now I'm telling him he'll get a new movie if he'll poop in the potty. One day it will click. I mean he could be 8 still pooping in a diaper but whatever. We'll see.
There are baby nurses, night baby nurses, etc. What about a professional potty trainer? I'd pay someone to come and take care of this for me. This is hard. I'm not down with training a boy how to poop in the potty.

So, this is one of the big happenings in Bennett's world. The other takes place tomorrow. Wish us luck and check back soon for a debrief or updated Chronicle.
